Ati Emmerik’s bronze figures radiate warmth,
emotion and a feeling of ‘belonging’. From
1975 until 1988 she studied in her own atelier
as she decided not to take the path of formal
training. She was afraid that otherwise her
inner feelings and inspiration would disappear.
She wanted to find her own manner of giving
form to the shapes and feelings that occupied
her. Ati’s surroundings and the events that take place around her
inspire her to search for the often concealed emotions under the
surface. Ati works mostly in one of two styles, figuratively or in more abstract rounded forms. She considers it a challenge to work with the tension that can be created by the play of lines. The figures of persons or animals that Ati creates are not her starting point. What concerns her most are the emotions or feelings that they generate. Whenever possible Ati works through the entire process of the bronze. It took her four years to find a patina for the bronzes which had the transparancy required to emphasize the tension inherent in her figures.
